The years of experience
Gli anni di esperienza Ferriere Giuseppe Cima was founded in Lecco in 1790, when the french revolution was establishing a new economical and social order, and since then it has always belonged to the same family. From the beginning the production concentrated on wires, small metallic items and agricultural tools. The first forges, built along the Gerenzone river, were replaced in the nineteenth century by new productive plants with mechanized manufacturing cycles. At the beginning of the twentieth century, Antonio and Felice Cima gave a remarkable push to the company by adding new galvanization divisions to those of wiredrawing. In so doing, they obtained prestigious prizes at the most important international exhibitions in the first decades of the century.

In 1926, the company acquired a new legal status and became a joint-stock company. During these years, thanks to a network of commercial agents, Ferriere Giuseppe Cima highly increased its exports to Europe and America. The historical events, strictly connected to the economic ones, induced Guido Cima, who took the place of his father Felice in the management of the firm, to break the isolation in which the local entrepeneurs moved themselves until then and in 1945, with other businessmen, he set up the Industrial Confederation of Lecco.

The postwar period was very hard and in order to cope with an increasing competition Ferriere Giuseppe Cima totally reorganized its plants and replaced the more dispersive and less remunerative divisions of its activity. The company specialized in the production of wires and strands which allowed the firm to gain an important market niche. The quality of its products enabled Ferriere Giuseppe Cima to overcome the difficult years between the seventies and the eighties, due to important economic and structural changes in Italy. After more than two hundred years since its establishment, the task of running the firm in the third millennium is entrusted to a woman, the first since 1790. Silvia Cima, with her son Guido and her daughter Luisa, in the last years are committed to penetrate new economic realities to export always innovative products and to remain, at the same time, competitive, while preserving a boutique family company.
